In true Blue Peter style..

Here's one I made earlier!

As a present for my best friends birthday.

And here's a little look at the lining.

It was all very fiddly as it's really rather small, but the pattern I followed to make it was really well explained and I have to say I'm really rather pleased with the final result!

New Designers

A couple of weeks ago I exhibited my work at New Designers.

It was a really exciting week and it was great to meet people who work in the industry and receive feedback on my designs.  I have spent the last week following up contacts and working on some new designs.

Camouflage

One of the ideas behind my project was to use the same fabrics for fashion as interiors.  This picture shows exactly what I had in mind.

For my dissertation I researched the concept of Make Do and Mend and this idea was definitely inspired by the countless stories of mothers making their children clothes from old curtains.

It might have also been inspired by the Von Trapps..

More Degree Show

This one includes my favourite oversized 'Bloomtown' bag...I'm not going to lie, I designed this one for me... it's got a beautiful pink velvet lining, can't wait to take the exhibition down so I can start using it!

Deadline Day

It's over! And here it is...

I have set up my exhibition space and it's awaiting marking...

I am now going to start putting my life back together after so many months of thinking of nothing other than my Final Major Project!

Final Week

The deadline for my project is tomorrow, so I have been spending this week finishing off bits and bobs and setting the exhibition up at college...it's a bit scary that the whole thing is coming to an end!

This is another picture from the photoshoot, this time of my dress.

Next week I will put some pictures up of my final show!

Photoshoot

I have been taking photos of some of my Final Pieces.

This is my favourite bag from my collection.  It is extremely oversized, has a floral print and a pink velvet lining.

Also pictured are a lovely bike and gorgeous cottage, neither of which belong to me, big shame!

Pick a card, any card.

My moo cards have arrived, hooray!

I can't choose which one is my favourite, but perhaps, like children and pets, one must love them all equally :)

Career Planning

Today I looked on the Indigo Trade Fair website, as I am working on my 'Career Plan.' And thought I would look up textile agents.

But then I was greeted with this lovely leopard- rabbit.  I have now been completely distracted as I love this image so much!

Today I received a first glimpse of my dress, in the form of a picture message, which I gave to a dressmaker to be made up last week... I am really pleased with how it is looking so far!  Even though I created the pattern and made up the toile, and printed the fabric I still hardly recognised it as a made up piece....

Very exciting times, I will post a picture of the finished piece when I get it back.

Today I went to the shops and I bought...

Some beautiful flowers from a market stall and a vintage apron from my new favourite charity shop. (Pictured here as table cloth)

I then played around with flower arrangements...

And found this beautiful teapot in the garage!

The Arcade

I found these beauties down the Arcade in Town...

They have inspired me to create some more repetitive floral prints and the jade green is tempting me to add to my colour story, but I must stay strong as I am already using a wide variety of colours in this project, and even I'm not sure if jade would sit well with olive and pea green.

Inspiration

Today I thought I would blog the photo that inspired my Final Major Project. The project is based on flowers and how they are displayed. I took this photo last June or July outside Liberty in London, it was a really lovely sunny day and these flowers stood out in the city as they were so bright and beautiful, I thought they looked amazing so I took the photo, I had no idea at the time that it would become such a big part of my final project!

This is the drawing I made from the photo, (it has come out slightly blurred as it is rather large in real life) with the colours painted to suit my projects colour story. I have just finished designing a fabric length incorporating this drawing and will blog the finished results soon.

'Corona Roses' Wallpaper

Here is part of my finished wallpaper, I painted in all the colour by hand, and used a tiny brush to paint the silver pigment onto the bottle stopper.  I am really pleased with the end product and particularly like the added silver pigment which looks great when the light shines onto it.

I am calling the finished design 'Corona Roses' as the bottle I drew was an old Corona beer bottle.

Wallpaper In Progress

Today I started to print my first wallpaper length for my Final Major Project.  I wanted to screen print the length as I like the hand made quality this creates.  I made the screen using drawings from my sketchbook and today I have got as far as printing the black outlines and hand painting in the flowers.  It is a rather long process painting the flowers in by hand, but I like that it will make it completely unique.

I took this picture once I'd finished the screen printing process, I will post the final piece when it's completed!

Beetle Embroidery

This is detail taken from a fabric necklace I created for a second year project, in Autumn 2009.  I screen printed flowers onto a vintage floral fabric, machine and hand embroidered to build up the layers of embellishment.  The beetle was from a drawing I made at the Booth Museum in Hove.  The museum's collection of butterflies and insects has been an inspiration to me throughout my degree course.

First Blog, First Post!

I have been studying for my BA Hons Surface and Textile Degree for the last three years and am now in my final months.  Before finishing the course I wanted to use a 'blog' to show some of the work I have created during this time.
Rather fittingly I found this collaged illustration of my camera from the first year of my course.
